Karima BoukounaCould you briefly talk about your position (Philips and then ASLOG)?

I am a Supply Chain and Service Activities professional at Philips France (Lighting and currently Healthcare). As such, the teams I manage are in charge of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), tender preparation, order entry, tracking until delivery to our customers (professionals or individuals) and invoicing. This function also includes service activities linked to technical support, after-sales service and customer satisfaction in general.

Recently in charge of the European distribution centre of Philips Lighting, I have ensured that customers’ expectations are taken into account when packages/pallets are prepared and in our carriers’ commitments for an on-time delivery with required cost and quality level.

I naturally joined the ASLOG (French Association of Supply Chain and Logistics) in 2014.


Could you describe ASLOG’s missions and activities?

The ASLOG is an association gathering professionals delivering corporate services. They help companies to develop their strategic and tactical views, their operational actions’ plans in order to be more profitable.

The ASLOG is in charge of:

  • Raising corporate management’s awareness about supply chain’s contribution to business
  • Encouraging companies to get Logistic and Supply Chain directors involved in leading positions of executive committees
  • Promoting supply chain’s issues, principles and positions in all economic sectors
  • Making sure that our professionals’ points of view are taken into account by both institutional and private players at a regional, national and international scale.


ASLOG’s major activities include:

  • Organising information seminars on topical themes
  • Setting up working groups (called LAB) on strategic subjects or representing major issues for logistics and supply chain’s players (Purchasing and Supply Chain, e-logistics, urban logistics, intern logistics, Agile Supply Chain, Packaging, Innovation, HR, Health). The CNE/ASLOG working group on Packaging is an example.
  • Launching the Benchmark – Supply Chain 2020 in January 2016 in order to assess the maturity of companies’ Supply Chain comparing to the 2020 ideal Supply Chain thanks to the results of the ASLOG’s benchmark.
  • The Day of Logistics – 04/21/2016 in order to promote our professions to institutions, students and the general public.
  • Networking: benefiting from a proximity network we are creating with regional organisations.
  • Maintaining the website which is a true professional portal: portfolio of knowledge, electronic directory.
  • Disseminating job or internship offers.

As such, ASLOG’s members are actively involved in the running of conferences, seminars and working groups. I have organised the Packaging working group.


According to you, what are the major issues between the packaging world and ASLOG?

The ASLOG gathers more than 400 companies and institutions (that is to say more than 1,500 in the network) involved in the logistics and supply chain’s area in different functions (operational, consulting, management…). That is why most of them face packaging-related issues on a daily basis (fair packaging, storage and transportation cost optimisation; ergonomics, strength, recycling, quality and adequacy of primary, secondary and tertiary packages; consideration of marketing, legislative and norms’ constraints).

The issues are of different types: economics, marketing and commercial, operational excellence, service, innovation and public health. In view of the interests of ASLOG’s members on the subject, the LAB packaging was created and the collaboration with the CNE was seen as obvious. The Better Practices Guide will certainly provide to the members with suggestions about the areas to be improved. This confirms the role of the ASLOG as an association dedicated to the improvement of companies’ profitability.


Are there any issues, concerns of the ASLOG about the product/packaging couple which would be worth documenting?

Can the CNE play this role for some of these concerns?

Among ASLOG’s concerns and issues related to the product/packaging area, I think it is relevant to discuss together product/packaging constraints related to the urban logistics and the Omni channel.

I think that the CNE can largely contribute to a certain technological watch which would correspond to innovation-related issues on which ASLOG’s members would like to have more visibility and information.


You have recently taken part drawing up the following document: “Packaging and Logistics”. What did you learn from this experience, about the format of the meetings, the report (document), the general organisation?

Is the ASLOG ready to repeat the experience in the next working group?

It was the first time for me and in general, I think the format was adequate: the meetings were spread out over time, and they weren’t too long. I think that the format is not a constraint. I could organise in advance to attend nearly all working meetings. Thanks to the diversity of speakers (researches, lawyers, associations, industrials, distributors, R&D experts…) and the efficiency of the round tables, discussions were worthwhile and the final result is complete and very concrete. As a member of the ASLOG, I think that the experience can be renewed on the basis of subjects to be determined together.


We know that the ASLOG would like to perpetuate the relationship with the CNE beyond the working group, can you tell us more about it (conferences, etc.)?

We would like the CNE’s members and the working groups gathered by the CNE to meet our members during seminars with round tables or conferences. It is important to give visibility on working groups’ reports in order to:

  • Share the results and interact with our members;
  • Identify our professional area of interest and use them to define future working groups;
  • Highlight the collaboration between both organisations and motivate members to join our working groups;
  • Continue collaborating.


Do you have any suggestion to improve the activities and thus the visibility of the CNE?

To be visible, the CNE must “show up” and communicate beyond its website and working groups which gather a limited number of people.

We could organise lunches / cocktails through which the CNE’s members and ASLOG’s members could meet; in order to provide information about the activities of the CNE, its role, actions, major events and the subjects on which we work or would like to work together.
