At the end of 2012, the CNE issued a new guide aiming to facilitate the drafting of environmental claims: “Assessment of Environmental Claims on Product Packaging: Recommendations and views expressed by the CNE”.

As a reminder, each environmental claim should be:

  • In compliance with best practice regulations, standards, guides and charters;
  • Fair (accurate, objective and thorough)
  • Understandable for the consumer
  • Relevant, coherent and proportionate

Upon the request of the Board, the CNE will ensure the continued existence of its work on the subject by implementing a standing committee “Environmental Claims” in April 2013: the latter is composed of the CNE’s partners and stakeholders interested in the best packaging practices and has adopted rules of procedure. This committee is in charge of delivering an opinion and, should the need arise, a recommendation on every question that shall be raised.
